Motorcycle Tuning Tools

Many people confuse tuning with getting extra power out of an engine, but ALL engine need to be properly tuned to run as they were designed to.

A motorcycle that is not tuned properly not only wastes expensive fuel and lacks potential power, but more worryingly can cause damage to the engine. For example an engine that is running lean (too little fuel in the air/fuel mixture) can burn out exhaust valves and over heat the engine with the potential for burning a hole in the piston, particularly in two strokes. An engine running too rich (too much fuel and not enough air in the air/fuel mixture) will wash the oil from the cylinder bore causing excessive piston, piston ring and bore wear. An engine running advanced (the spark occurring too early in the cycle) can suffer from "pinking" (pre-ignition) which can cause detonation before TDC (Top Dead Centre) which can cause catastrophic damage to the engine internals. Multi-cylinder that run lumpy are often in need of the carburettors or throttle bodies being synchronised. If an engine is not balanced and smooth it can cause excessive wear.
